Whip-saw trading action

Colombo stocks commenced its operations for the new week yesterday on a marginally green ground with a whip-saw trading action. Sectors such as Information Technology (+2.71%) and Power and Energy (+2.29%) displayed positive trading during the day. ASI gained by 3.47 points (+0.05%) to end at 6,836.53 while liquid MPI increased by 12.87 points (+0.21%) to close at 6,199.59. Market turnover stood at Rs 1.5bn. Colonial Motors Plc (Rs.186.1mn) emerged as the top contributor to the turnover.

In addition PC House Plc (Rs 100.2mn) and John Keells Holdings Plc (Rs 76.7mn) contributed notably to the daily turnover. In the meantime Colonial Motors Plc, PC House Plc and Seylan Development Plc attracted heavy investor participation during the day.
