STF to come down hard on underworld activities

The Police Special Task Force continues to take stern action against
underworld activities. Police Special Task Force Commodant Deputy
Inspector General RWMC Ranawana yesterday told the media at the STF
headquarters that the STF has been assigned with many responsibilities
in the aftermath of the elimination of terrorism, one of the main tasks
being combat underworld activities.

He stated that the STF could prevent crimes and bring the culprits to
book with the support of the public. He added that the STF arrested
leading underworld leader, Neluwe Priyantha with the support of the
public. He added that the STF were able to dispel the fear psychosis
from the minds of the people of Kahawatta within a short period of time.
Commandant Ranawana said that some groups are creating imaginary
characters like 'Grease Yaka' to create a fear psychosis in the minds of
the people by confining them to their houses at night to conduct their
illegal activities without any hindrances. He added that the STF would
intervene in such instances to arrest the situation.
He said that the public can inform the STF with regard of crimes or
criminals involved with underworld activities, drug trafficking,
cannabis cultivation and trade, illegal gem mining, sand mining, illegal
felling of trees etc. The STF would take immediate measures if found to
be genuine. He added that the STF will not divulge the identities of
informants.
