Shocking fine on power pirate

Panadura Magistrate R S A Dissanayake imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on a person who pleaded guilty to a charge of pirating electricity to his house. The accused, Nimal Gunaratne, was also ordered to pay Rs 87,313.50, the loss caused to the Ceylon Electricity Board by fraudulently consuming electricity.

Four people who consumed electricity fraudulently were fined Rs 10,000 each by Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasingha. He also ordered them to pay Rs 237,859.04 to the Ceylon Electricity Board.
