Houses for Puttalam district beneficiaries

Houses of 16 beneficiaries in the Puttalam District who have been granted Rs 100,000 each by the National Youth Council to build houses, are being completed. Wayamba Provincial Housing Minister Sanath Nishantha has contributed Rs 25,000 for each house.

These houses which were built at Rs 475,000 each will be handed over to the beneficiaries this month.

Training programmes are also conducted for National Youth Society officers. The first training programme will be held at Madampe, Mahawewa and Walahapitiya from August 5 to 8.

Training programmes on beauty culture, cake making, sewing and hotel management have also commenced.

A youth development fund was inaugurated at Wennappuwa in July under the patronage of Ministers Dayashritha Tissera and Milroy Fernando to provide youth with necessary funds.

Competitions such as dancing and singing were also organised.

Training on information technology and English is also provided.

“The National Youth Services Council is spearheading its pragmatic programmes and activities in a sustained manner for the progress of youth.

The aim is to empower youth for sustainable development and enhance their skills improving job opportunities,” said National Youth Services Council Director and Sports Association Deputy Secretary Ajith Naragala addressing the press at the Puttalam district Youth Council Regional office, Chilaw on July 26.

“We support youth in finding employment by providing training and facilities to obtain bank loans. We have implemented programmes in all spheres,” he added.

He pointed out that innovative programmes have been implemented in collaboration with the Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma. The National Youth Services Council is established to promote youth welfare activities, he said.

“We venture to enlist youth in national development activities. We encourage them to take part in cultural and sports activities and encourage their artistic talents,” he said.
