UCL Logistics to transport wheat flour by train

Sajith de Mel

UCL Logistics (Pvt) Ltd will conduct logistic operations to transport Prima wheat flour from Trincomalee to Colombo Port by train for the first time in Sri Lanka.

UCL Logistics (Pvt) Ltd is a member company of Expo Lanka Holdings. Its Sales and Marketing Manager Sajith de Mel said the railway is one of the profitable transport services in Sri Lanka and plans are under way to implement this service within the next six months.

He said they will be booking a separate train to transport Prima wheat flour from Trincomalee to Colombo Port. At least 24 containers can be accommodated at a time.

“With the conclusion of the war the business atmosphere is very good which has prompted us to undertake this innovative operation,” he said.

“When we put this method into a full time operation it would bring us very good returns and it would also help to boost the Government railway as well,” he said.

“We should exploit every opportunity we have to better the industry which is now booming and is very competitive. To withstand competition we should look for innovations and that’s why we are trying these novel ways,” he said.
