Generally, the age of 11 is the period that grade five schoolchildren
play with their friends and enjoy in a childish way. But not for some.
Jacques Gunawardena,11, of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda has fun
with a different type of sport that his friends used to take part.
Jacques is an up and coming motocross rider who has an incredible 99
percent success, having podium finishes, winning almost all races
throughout 2010 and 2011.

Jacques has been participating in Motor-Cross Racing since he was
four years, and has won many events.
This year, he has showed a colourful start by dominating his pet
event the 85 CC / under 13 years race. He is the one who excells in this
event and no one is currently able to give him a tough fight.
He has another year before he can ride in the next group, but even
now, he is competing in the under 16 event and posing a threat to riders
in that group too.
The 2011 season has been the best for Jacques, as he has emerged the
winner in all Under 13 racing events and has two Podium Finishes in the
Under 16 event, giving the more experienced riders a very close
challenge.
The young rider is likely to enter the league of most outstanding
riders with days to come and motorcross fans expect more from him in the
near future.
Jacques, thanks his uncle Lincoln, sponsor Red Doors (Pvt.) Ltd. and
mechanic Mahe from Kotte.
He also appreciates the support extended by his sports- loving
parents for their guidance, encouragement and for being there at all
times.
He also thanked Haren for the facility given to him to practise on
his track. |
