Japan gives Rs 139 m assistance

The Japanese Government gave Japanese Yen 100 million (approximately
Rs 139 million) through the office of the United Nations Commissioner
for Refugees (UNHCR) for humanitarian assistance to displaced persons
and returnees to the country. The event took place at the Japanese
Embassy yesterday.
The donation will be used for UNHCR activities such as shelter, cash
grant for returnees etc.
“Japan’s ongoing projects in the Northern Province include building
of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, construction of Vavuniya- Kilinochchi
Transmission Line, assistance in demining activities, development
planning in Jaffna and Mannar districts and livelihood assistances,”
said Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Kunio Takahashi. |
