Handing over of SL’s first solar power plant
Sri Lanka’s first solar power plant established at Barutha Kanda
Solar Power Park in Hambantota, will be handed over to the pubic on
August 8 under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa.
Five hundred K.watts capacity of electricity will be added to the
national electricity Grid. The Korean government has financed the
establishment of this solar power plant at a cost of Rs 412 million.
Sustainable Energy Authority Director Athula Jayathunga said that
this power plant generates 2,300 units of electricity daily and
generates 839,500 kilowatts hours annually.
“By adding this solar power energy to the national grid, 200,000
litres of diesel could be saved annually,” he said adding that in view
of this the emission of 300 tonnes of carbondioxide to the environment
has been stopped.
