Joint programme to educate people on dengue

The Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha in collaboration with the Divisional Secretariat, Kelaniya MOH Office, Kelaniya, Peliyagoda and Kiribathgoda Police are conducting a joint programme to educate the public to combat the dengue menace.

Kelaniya PS Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera and Kelaniya MOH Dr (Mrs) Wasantha Rajapaksa, are spearheading the campaign.

Children and elders took part in a procession from the PS office to Kiribathgoda town carrying placards. Several three-wheelers and motorcycles also joined the procession.

Kelaniya PS Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera addressing a meeting at the PS office, said each family should take care to have their houses and the surroundings clean. Garbage disposal and cleaning of drains, should be carried out regularly.

To motivate people towards the eradication of dengue mosquitoes, the government had decided to increase fines for those who allow mosquitoes to breed in their premises.
