‘JPs have significant place in society’

“A Justice of the Peace holds a significant place in society and they
are a part of our legal system.
“Those who hold such a responsibility have to act with great concern
to uphold the law of the country,” said Ven. Maningamuwe thera,
Wattegama Balika MV Vice Principal addressing the Association of JP’s,
Patha Dumbara. It was chaired by Legal Aid Commission President Nissanka
Ranatunga
The Nayaka thera said, holding seminars and discussions on legal
matters are essential to have an understanding of their
responsibilities.
Nayaka thera tracing the origin of law said that the clash between
demands and needs of society had created conflicts and conflict
resolution has brought social order. Kandy Legal Aid President Nissanka
Ranatunga said that the Legal Aid Commission gives legal education to
schoolchildren as well as to the public.
He added that the commission helps public who are unable to get legal
assistance.
He stressed that the commission welcomes anyone who seeks their
assistance. |
