Special leave during Ramazan

Labour and Labour Relations Minister Gamini Lokuge in a communique yesterday said that the government has decided to grant a special leave facility to Muslim employees in the government sector to participate in religious observances, during the Ramazan period and requested employers in the private sector to grant the same facility as well.

In keeping with the said decision the Employers of the Private Sector are kindly requested to adopt the following guideline.

During the period of Ramazan commencing from August 01st to August 31st 2011.

Granting of special leave during the daily prayer times as follows:-

03.30 a.m. to 06.00 a.m.

03.15 p.m. to 04.15 p.m.

06.00 p.m. to 07.00 p.m.

07.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

Granting of Special holiday on the day of Ramazan

Paying of festival or salary advances, 14 days prior to the expiry of the Ramazan period to the eligible Muslim employees.
