Govt to bolster ambulance fleet

The government plans to improve patient transport services by adding
152 new ambulances to its existing fleet of 600 currently in service at
hospitals around the country. At present there are more than 1,000
healthcare institutions in the country and transferring of patients from
one hospital to another for advanced treatment is being handled by about
600 ambulances.
The proposal made by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena to purchase
of 152 ambulances to improve patient transfers through competitive
bidding at a total cost of Rs.972 million, has been approved by the
Cabinet.
