Teachers duty-bound to steer students - President
Suraj A Bandara
The teaching profession is a noble profession and teachers bear the
responsibility in steering the students on the correct path. To
accomplish this, the teachers must fulfill their duty and obligation to
prepare students for the service of the motherland, President Mahinda
Rajapaksa said.
The President was addressing the newly appointed aesthetic teachers
at Temple Trees. President Rajapaksa yesterday handed over appointment
letters to 3,174 aesthetic graduates, recruited as government teachers.
The newly appointed aesthetic teachers were selected to cover the
entire country. This measure was taken to fulfill the vacancies existing
in schools. Recruitment of 3,174 aesthetic teachers took place after a
competitive examination where more than 5,000 graduates participated to
be elected as teachers.
This was the first time, a large number of aesthetic teachers were
recruited to the government service in Sri Lanka. This also became
fruitful with the personal directions of the President and untiring
efforts of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena pointed out the importance of
the yeoman service rendered by the teacher in society to create a
student generation with humane qualities.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunga stated that the
teaching profession deserve respect and glory.
It still flourished as a supreme and topmost social service, he said.
This quality should also be maintained and particularly aesthetic
teachers should be very keen and dedicated to impart their knowledge and
make the students productive. Sabaragamuwa Province Governor W.J.M.
Lokubandara, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister
Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Education Deputy Minister Gamini Wijith
Wijayamuni de Soyza and Education Ministry Secretary M.M. Gunasekara
