AGM

The annual general meeting of the Vehicle Importers Association of Lanka will be held on July 30 at 6 pm at Hilton Hotel, Colombo, to select office-bearers for the coming season and to discuss problems experienced by vehicle importers.


Public lecture

A public lecture by world renowned Professors on “Applied signal image processing and low-power microelectronics for the communication, space and biomedical industries”, will be held at the GISM Campus, Nugegoda today at 4.30 pm.

The Professional Development Centre of Graduate Institute of Science and Management (GISM) is organizing this lecture by two well-known celebrities, Prof Dik Morling and Prof Izzet Kale from Westminster University UK.

After the lecture the participants will have the opportunity of meeting them.

The duo are here in Sri Lanka on an invitation of the GISM Campus President Prof. G. G. Senaratne.

This public lecture has relevance to the telecom sector and electronics design and manufacturing, DSP, automation, mechatronics and robotics studies and their application, biomedical applications and scientific research sectors in both the academia and industry in Sri Lanka. Admissions are free.


INGRIN seminar

A seminar on British Degree qualifications conducted by the INGRIN Institute will be held today at 290 D R Wijewardena Mawatha Colombo 10.

Presenters include Directors of Global Educators Group and the CEO of OTHM (Organisation for Tourism and Hospitality Management).

The seminar provides an opportunity to Sri Lankan students to find out more about globally recognized UK qualifications offered by the Global Educator Group in Sri Lanka.

The group’s mission is to make quality UK education available to global audience and carries the mission statement “Education without boundaries”.


Vavuniya campus lectures

Vavuniya Campus Senior Assistant Registrar has informed that lectures will commence for the Faculties of Applied Science and Business Studies from August 1, 2011. Lecture date for newly registered students for the academic year 2010/2011 will be informed in due course.


NILIS Symposium

The annual research symposium of the National Institute of Library and Information Sciences (NILIS) of Colombo University will be held on August 1 at the NILIS auditorium.

The theme of the symposium is 'Information for Excellence in Education.' Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof. Gamini Samaranayake and Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo, Prof Kshanika Hirimburegama will be the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. Mohan Samaranayake, Chairman, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation will deliver the keynote address.


Fined for possessing illicit brew

Alawwa police seized 500 bottles of illicit liquor hidden in a house at Madawala. One suspect who was arrested was imposed a Rs 125,000 fine.
