Social worker guilty of culpable homicide

A social worker in Rividewgama, Panadura was found guilty of
committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder and was sentenced
to eight years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 in default of
six months imprisonment by the Chilaw Provincial High Court Judge
Malanee Gunaratne presiding at the Panadura Provincial High Court.
The accused, Mahathelge Desmond Peiris who was Rividewgama United
Community Society President was indicted by the Attorney General for the
death of Gayan Lakmal, a 22-year-old youth at Rividewgama, Parattha,
Panadura in 2004.
The medical report revealed that there were 10 stab injuries on the
body of the deceased. |
