Minister urges to respect people's rights

Minister Weerawansa

Certain politicians and State officials do not respect the people's rights after winning elections despite the fact that nothing is more powerful than the people's mandate, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

He said so at the mobile service programme organized by the ministry recently to find solutions to land and housing problems at Athurugiriya Shantha Lokagama Cultural Centre.

He said that certain politicians talk about the people's mandate, but they soon forget it after the election. Therefore, the people suffer, he added.

Minister Weerawansa also made a financial donation of Rs 4.4 million as housing aid to 26 low income families in the Pothuarawa and Battaramulla areas.
