Gratiaen recipients at Book Buzz
The Book Buzz series is back in action presenting the Gratiaen Prize
winners Sakunthala Sachithanandan and Delon Weerasinghe. They will be
featured at the British Council Book Buzz event in Kandy. The Book Buzz
literary series was initiated with the objective of offering its
audiences the opportunity of experiencing some of the best UK and Sri
Lankan literary talent there is on offer.

Sakuntala Sachithanandan was educated at Visakha Vidyala, Colombo,
qualified as a lawyer at the Sri Lanka Law College, and also a lawyer.
She is fond of children, animals, reading, writing, painting, gardening
and teaching children. She has published the children's book, 'Tales
from the Tree House', and another children's book, 'The Adventures of
Sokadi'. 'The Line-Room Mouse', is in the process of being published.
She won the 2010 Gratiaen Prize for her collection of poetry titled 'On
the Streets & other Revelations'.
Delon Weerasinghe who has been a part of the Book Buzz series before,
has written professionally for the stage, print, screen, web and radio.
Best known perhaps as a playwright, his play 'Thicker than Blood' won
the Gratiaen prize in 2005. Delon has also been responsible for the
creation and management of www.writeclique.net, the British Council's
website for writers. A few excerpts from his award winning play 'Thicker
than Blood' will be read on the evening along with some of his new
unpublished work.
The Book Buzz featuring Gratien Prize winners Sakunthala and Delon
will be held on Saturday, 30 July, at 5.45pm at British Council Kandy.
Admission tickets can be purchased at the British Council premises in
Kandy.
