Jenny: different facets into art

At first take you might not take this as an arts magazine. Even the magazine title itself makes you wonder if it is more of a women's magazine or a compilation of articles based on home and interior décor but think again Jenny is an out of the box concept which tackles on subjects related to the field in a manner which makes you pause, and rethink along a different track.

A product of Jenny group which churned out dramas like Govi Rajjuruwo (The King of the Fields), Zorba and the more recent Romeo Juleitla, the quarterly magazine has seen nine publications. Each issue highlights up-to-date topics revolving around cinema, theatre and art in general. It chronicles aspects like the emergence and growth of the fields and is a handy read for all art enthusiasts.

The latest edition comprises a theme: mechanical lifestyle of the society. It takes on mature topics like time management, stress and depression with a serious yet readable note. Little known historic facts about well known figures in the society. Who guessed the meaning behind Michael Jackson's trademark musical technique, the sobbing noise he link with his songs?

Another aspect of the publication is that it comprises film reviews penned via a professional's eyes. The newest edition includes the reviewer's thoughts on Mulos Forman's celebrated film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It also has some heart warming and thought provoking poems printed amid its pages.

They will be concentrating on the contemporary features in the life of man in their upcoming publication. Several pages of the magazine is dedicated into finding solutions for the issue.

Intelligence, sensitivity, style, authority and historical insight are key points of the magazine. It falls under the editorship of Nadeeka Bandara the editorial board: Jagath Jayasekara, Shermila Perera, Aravinda Kaushalya and Nayanajith Botheju. This team had been involved in a number of experimental theatre productions and know their stuff. They are not afraid to take on a new aspect, technique or concept before the world and that is exactly what Jenny offers to its readers. Though slim bound it will keep you engaged for hours.
