Manori Jayakody (Ladies Gross) and Englishman Ian Tait (Mens Gross)
stole the show at the monthly medal gold championship of Victoria Golf
and Country Resort and worked off at the beautiful Victoria golf course
at Rajawella Kandy.
Manori Jayakody of 'Hyundai Motor Company' fame at last struck form
to win the Ladies Gross champion with a Gross score of 93 followed by
Fran de Mel Gross 98 and Jyoti Haynes Gross 99 making it a closely
contested battle for the top three places.
Englishman Ian Tait, a former cheshire Minor County cricketer and
ruggerite did well to register a Gross 84 to win the Mens overall Gross
title. But hot on his heels were Sirath Kasturiratne Gross 86 and Scott
Wanigasekera Gross 85 making it a tough contest between this trio.
Sirath Kasthuriratne a former President of the Sri Lanka Cricket
Foundation in England also struck form after quite sometime to finish
second runner-up. He was also first winner of the Lectra Golf
Championship a few years back.
The course turned out to be challenging and difficult to play on this
bright and sunny day. According to the golfers the ball was coming off
fast in the fairways and the golfers had to give out their best to come
to terms with it.
The Overall Mens Nett Championship was clinched by Sirath
Kasthuriratne who registered a Nett score of 72 playing to a handicap of
16.
Ian Tait was placed second this time with a Nett score of 78 playing

of 82 playing to a handicap of 16. Good scores were also registered by
Mike Thornton 83 Nett and Carl Kelaart 84 Nett.
