Action Sports Indoor Cricket from today

The inaugural Action Sports Indoor Cricket Open Tournament 2011 commences today at 6.30 pm at the Austasia Sports Complex in Thalawathugoda.

The tournament is organized by Action Sports Pvt Ltd in collaboration with Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association ( CICA) in which 24 teams from corporates, banks and clubs will compete in four groups. The tournament will go on for five weeks and the games will be played on every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

There will be 60 games in the first round as each team will play five matches. The two top teams based on points and nett run rate will quality for the quarter finals. The tournament will act as a trial to select the next National Indoor Cricket Team that will represent Sri Lanka at the Six-Nations Tournament which is to be held in India in September and the Indoor Cricket World Cup in South Africa in October.

CICA Technical Head Hiran De Mel noted that the tournament will generate a stiff level of competition which will lead to emerge the best talented. Action Sports Managing Director Shohrab Salman extended their fullest support and dedication for the tourney and also a sustainable touch to promote indoor cricket in Sri Lanka.
