Sri Devol Maha Devala Esala Festival
Seenigama Sri Devol Maha Devalaya's 44th annual Esala festival will
commence on August 18 at the auspicious time of 1.50 am with the
installation of the a Kap. The festival will continue until August 25.
The festival will begin on August 18 with Muratha pooja to Devol
Deity followed by the public meeting at 10 am with the participation of
chief incumbents, ministers and other delegates at the devale.
All night Pirith chanting will be held on August 18 followed by
offering of alms to the clergy on August 19 at 7.30am.
At 9.00pm , the same day, a cultural dance performance will be held
and continue throughout the night.
The first day procession will begin at the auspicious time of 2 pm on
August 20 and will proceed to Thotagamuwa Rathpath Rajamaha Viharaya at
Thelwaththa.
The second day processing will proceed to the Hikkaduwa tourist
resort. The night maha perahera will begin at 8pm on August 22 and the
perahara will tour Seenigama town area on August 23. The Devol Madu
Yagaya in honour of Siri Devol deity and Paththini Meni will be
performed throughout the night of August 24.
The fire walking ceremony will begin on August 25 morning. The fire
walking will be performed by the Kapupaththini lay priest. The festival
will end after the offering of Kiri Danaya in the morning.
A special pandal in hounor of the devol deity erected by Eksath
Tharuna Baudhdha Sangamaya of Seenigama will be on display from Aughst
18 to 25 at the Seenigama junction. |
