The first house under the Janasewana one million housing project was
handed over to a needy family yesterday by Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa at
Diyagama, Homagama.
The house was built at a cost of Rs 1.5 million funded by the Ocean
View Company. Ten more houses will be built with their support, the
minister said.
The Janasewana project is being carried out to provide a house for
every citizen of the country under the Mahinda Chintana Policy and
President Mahinda Rajapaksa's concept of "shanty free cities".
The government has invested Rs 9.02 million in the housing project at
Diyagama, which is supervised by the Urban Development Authority. |
