SLRCS help for North
The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) has initiated a programme for
constructing a housing complex and upgrading the livelihoods of the
people in the North, allocating about Rs 1,000 million.
The number of housing units to be constructed under this programme on
a request made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa is about 2,000. The
programme also includes the award of Rs 35,000 for each family for the
uplift of livelihoods and Rs 30,000 each for water and sanitation
facilities.
An event has been organized for July 19 with the participation of
Parliamentary Affairs Secretary to the President Kumarasiri Hettige and
SLRCS representatives, including its president Jagath Abeysinghe, to
look into the implementation of this programme.
SLRCS acting Director General Sudath Madugalle said that arrangements
have been made to distribute water filters to schools, hospitals and
government offices in Kilinochchi during this observation tour.
Sanitary units will also be distributed among patients in hospitals
and exercise books and uniforms would be distributed among
schoolchildren. |
