Tank renovation project in NCP

The North Central Provincial Council under the guidance of Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake has embarked on a tank renovation and rehabilitation programme under which the small tanks damaged by recent floods would be rehabilitated.

The rehabilitation work, commenced in Adampane, Hunuwilagama, Pimburellegama tanks in Nochchiyagama DS jurisdictions and four dilapidated tanks in Mahawilachchiya which are Elpitiya Kuda Ethdathkalla, Ihala Helambawewa and Dodanwila. The work was inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

The entire project will cost Rs 15 million.

Once these rural tanks have been renovated 1,000 more acres in addition to the lands already under cultivations could be grown with paddy and subsidiary food crops.

At the inauguration ceremony the Chief Minister emphasised that his intention was to revive all small tanks in the Provincial Council thus restoring the past glory in Rajarata.
