Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa, said that certain anti-government elements were operating within the government and due to anti-government acts by certain officials, the entire government had fallen into a difficult position.

'These anti-government elements had been doing their utmost to ruin the country's economy, there by ensuring the collapse of the government just as the Tiger terrorists attempted to destroy the economy during the thirty year war.

The minister quoted as an example, acts of certain officials to import low quality petrol to the country at a time when the minister-in charge of the subject was away from the country and taken action to distribute such low quality petrol throughout the country creating grave unrest.
