Expo 2012 to promote country's trade

Sri Lanka Expo 2012, organized by the Export Development Board with
other public and private sector institutions will be held from March 28
to 30, 2012 at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre of the
BMICH under the theme "Partnering with the hub of Asia".

EDB will facilitate Expo 2012 to promote Sri Lanka's trade,
investment and tourism while attracting more international buyers for
the country's quality products and services.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of Sri Lanka Expo 2012 official
website, EDB Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said. "We are happy to reorganize
the Expo 2012 after 15 years and this exhibition will act as a catalyst
to achieve our national target of Rs 15 billion exports by 2015.
Parallel to Expo 2012, there will be a business symposium and eminent
international business leaders are to participate at this event as key
note speakers. In addition, it is planned to attract over1000 buyers
from strategic markets."
More than 300 Sri Lankan exporters are to participate in the Expo
2012 and it will consist of nearly 350 stalls representing various
industries in Sri Lanka.
EDB launched the official website of Sri Lanka Expo
www.srilankaexpo.com and this will provide online registration
facilities for overseas buyers and investors. "Exports of some countries
are more than 100 percent of their Gross Domestic Product and we are
looking at a model of that nature and knowledge and service will play
pivotal role to achieve this objective." According to Ratnayake, exports
of India, Hongkong and Malaysia record 125, 140 and 125 percent of their
GDP's respectively.
