Richmond and Rajapaksa Central Southern Province athletics champs

Richmond College, Galle and Rajapaksa Central College, Weeraketiya won the Southern Province Schools Athletics Championships which concluded at the Uyanwatte Stadium last Friday.

Ten New Meet records were established. -

Under 15 Girls:

100 metres - Nanduni Lochana Nilaweera, St. Mary's Convent Matara 18.1 seconds.

400 metres - S.H. Sithara Udayangani, Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda - 1 mt 03.2 secs.

4x400 relay - Debarawewa N.S 4 mts 36.6 secs.

Under 17 Boys:

110 metres Hurdles - Akila Imantha Nilaweera, St. Servatius College, Matara - 14.9 seconds.

400 metres Hurdles - H.G. Ashan Indika, St. Servatius College, Matara - 57.3 seconds.

Under 17 Girls:

Pole vault - Y.K. Amila Prabhodini, Vidyaraja N.S 2.20 metres.

400 metres - I.G. Indika Shrimali, Rajapaksa Central College, Weeraketiya 1mt 00.7 seconds.

Under 19 Girls:

5000 metres - A.G. Shashikala Sewwandi, Rajapaksa Central College, Weeraketiya 19mt 20.2 seconds.

Under 21 Boys:

Pole vault - L.L.D. Lakitha Jayasekera, Mahinda College, Galle 3.12 metres.

Under 21 Girls:

Pole vault - V.G. Gayani Thakshila Sandamali, Vidyaraja National School 2.20 metres. The following were selected as the best athletes.

Under 15 Boys - W.T. Mithun Lasith - P. de S. Kularatna College, Ambalangoda for winning the 400 metres event with a time of 55.3 seconds.

Under 15 Girls - S.H. Sithara Udayangani - Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda for winning the 400 metres event with a time of 1 mt 03.2 seconds.

Under 17 Boys - Akila Imantha Nilaweera - St. Servatius, Matara for 110 metres hurdles with a time of 14.9 seconds.

Under 17 Girls - I.G. Indika Shrimali - Rajapaksa Central College, Weeraketiya 400 meters - 1 mt 00.7 seconds.

Under 19 Boys - M. Dilshan Madusanka - Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda 100 metres - 10.9 seconds.

The overall champions at the meet were

Boys - 1. Richmond College, Galle - (49 points)

2. Mahinda College, Galle - (47 points)

3. Rahula College, Matara - (44 points)

Girls - 1. Rajapaksa Central College, Weeraketiya - (79 points)

2. St. Mary's Convent, Matara - (58 points)

3. Sujatha Girls School, Matara - (43 points)
