Postal Dept to issue first day cover

The Postal Department will issue a first day cover under the mediation of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC) to commemorate the 2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthi and commemorate the completion of 2600 years of the first Dhamma Desana - the Dhammachakappavaththana Suththa - which was delivered at Isipathanaramaya in Banares by the Buddha, its president Jagath Sumathipala told the Daily News.

The ACBC with the collaboration of the Archaeological Department has drawn up a plan to hold religious activities on a grand scale at Girihanduseya, Trincomalee to mark the 2600th Sambuddhathva Jayanthi year, Sumathipala said.

Sacred Hair Relics which were brought from Bangladesh under the mediation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa will also be brought to Girihanduseya, Trincomalee from Hunupitiya Gangaramaya in a special event.
