Those undegoing rehabilitation in camps will be provided public
assistance in the future to enable them to achieve improvements in their
jobs, according to their attitudes and skills when integrating them to
mainstream society, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said.
He made this statement yesterday when he met 2,500 persons who had
been integrated to main stream society after undergoing rehabilitation
training at Mullaithivu Vidyananda College.
Rajapaksa said that it is the government’s responsibility to provide
facilities to those who have been integrated to mainstream society to
march towards a favourable future forgetting the painful experiences
undergone during 30 years.
He stressed the importance of their contribution to the development
process of society.
MP Rajapaksa reminded of the fact that the training programmes on
computer education, aesthetic and vocational training had been prepared
methodically and opportunities had been made available for trainees in
rehabilitation camps to receive higher education.
”There are 2,598 trainees undergoing training in rehabilitation camps
at present and invariably they too will be integrated to the main stream
of the society before the end of this year,” he added. Action is being
taken to direct them to self-employments after a feasibility study. A
bank loan subject to a maximum limit of Rs. 250,000 at a four percent
concessionary rate of interest is due to be paid in the future by Bank
of Ceylon to enable to get their innate abilities improved further.
Rajapaksa said that the objective of the government, which has
achieved success in the development process, is to ascertain a
prosperous future for the children in a free and independent State and
for that purpose the support of the people in the North is essential.
