First half of this year records

Health Ministry Epidemiology Unit statistics reveal that 10,010 dengue cases have been reported in the island with 77 deaths during the first half of this year. The most number of cases were reported in the Colombo district. This figure is 3,745. A total of 27 deaths were reported in Colombo during the past six months. Last month alone, 1,478 dengue cases have been reported in Colombo.

This is a drastic increase compared to 698 in May. The second highest number of dengue cases by the end of June was reported in Gampaha district.

This number is 1,263. Kalutara and Batticaloa also showed high number of patients during the past six months. The total number of dengue patients reported in the country during last month is 3,213. Fourteen individuals died of dengue last month. This is also a significant rise compared to 1,956 dengue patients reported in May.
