Hameedia Deputy Managing Director Hussain Sadique said, "adidas is already the most popular and inspired sports brand in this country with an exclusive flagship store in Havelock Town and branded stores at the Crescat Boulevard, Majestic City and Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte. As the sole distributor for the adidas brand in Sri Lanka, Hameedia is proud to bring these world class products to hundreds of new customers in and around Kandy. Singer collects over 60 tonnes e-waste

As one of the most environmentally conscious corporate citizens in the country, Singer Sri Lanka was amongst the first companies to partner with the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) in its battle against the growth of electronic waste (or e-waste). Since signing onto the National Co-operate E-Waste Management

E-waste

Initiative, Singer Sri Lanka was also the first to begin e-waste collections and has now collected over 60 tonnes of e-waste to date, proving its commitment to putting its eco-friendly principles into practice.

Aimed at building the infrastructure needed for the responsible management of e-waste, the initiative allows the public to dispose of their televisions, refrigerators, computers, and other electronic items in an environmentally friendly manner. Once collected, these items are then handed over to a recycling organization which processes and recycles the component materials, reducing air and water pollution, as well as the consumption of new raw materials. Singer’s responsibilities under the E-Waste Management Initiative go beyond collecting e-waste; they also include carrying out periodic audits to ensure effective and environmentally sustainable operations.

The awareness of the health hazard connected with improper disposal of e-waste spurred the CEA to set up the National Co-operate E-Waste Management initiative, bringing together a number of industry partners, including Singer Sri Lanka. As the most active industry ally, Singer has led the effort to collect e-waste. Individuals can help by handing over their home and office e-waste at any Singer Plus, Singer Mega, and Sisil World showroom islandwide.

To ramp up collection, the company is also planning on conducting awareness programs for consumers, schoolchildren and the public. For example, by organizing an Environment Day, Singer Sri Lanka hopes to educate the public about the problem of electronic waste, and how they can be part of the solution.

Singer’s commitment to creating awareness of environmental issues is evident in its Singer Retail Academy Theme of the Week programme, through which the company educates its retail employees about a different topic every week. These employees can then instruct customers on a variety of environmental matters, including the proper disposal of e-waste.

Philips induction cookers at Abans

A new arrival at Abans is the innovative Philips Induction Cooker which reduces cooking time by more than 40 percent while at the same time preserves the nutrients in the food better.

Philips cooker

Most people have not heard about induction cooking. Induction cooking is a safe, advanced, efficient and economical cooking technology. It works through electromagnetic vibrations to generate heat directly to the cooking utensil, rather than indirectly heating the surface like other cookers. Magnetic coils produce a high frequency electromagnetic field which penetrates the cooking pan and sets up a circulating electric current which generates heat. The heat generated in the magnetic, flat based pan is then transferred to the food.

The Philips Induction Cooker heats food faster to better seal in the nutrients and moisture by using the entire surface of the cooking utensil to sufficiently transfer heat. So unlike conventional gas or electric cookers, the induction cooker greatly reduces the cooking time and keeps the food tender and delicious.

Faster cooking means less energy consumption and more time for other household chores and relaxation. It is also very convenient for working people who have to prepare meals in a hurry. It is also the ideal cooking method for health conscious individuals who believe that nutrition is essential for good health. The Philip Induction Cooker comes with a variety of cooking programmes for healthy eating.

This unique cooker has eight power levels for different types of cooking and easy preset programmes with unique heat pattern. It also has advanced touch sensor control with user friendly interface and a large LCD display which denotes the cooking time or preset timer.
