Chinese Communist Party's 90th anniversary:

Sri Lanka-China Society congratulates China

The founding of the Communist Party of China on July 1, 1921 under the leadership of Mao Zedong is one of the most important events of the 20th century.

The Sri Lanka-China Society will commemorate this occasion along with the Chinese National Day celebrations on October 1.

Sri Lanka-China Society President Amaradasa Gunawardana in a congratulatory message to mark the occasion states:

'We in Sri Lanka-China Society wish to join hands with our Chinese friends to celebrate the 90th anniversary of founding the Communist Party of China. This great historic event which took place on 01st July, 1921 certainly paved the way for the emergence of a new bright era in the history of the entire modern world. The epoch making changes introduced by the proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation of China molded a new world not only for the Chinese but for the entire international community. Hence we too join hands with our Chinese friends to celebrate this event.

We notice four most glaring historic events that took place in the 20th century in the history of modern China.

The revolution of 1911 led by Dr. Sun Yatsen ended over 2,000 years of feudal monarchy and established the Republic of China. On the 01st of July, 1921, a group of 12 delegates including Mao Zedong representing communist groups in different places throughout China founded the Communist Party of China in the city of Shanghai on October 01, 1949, in a grand ceremony on the Tianenman Square in Beijing. Mao Zedong solemnly proclaimed the founding of the Peoples' Republic of China in 1979.

China instituted a guiding policy of "reform and opening to the outside world". It was under the leadership of Deng Xiaoping. This brought about the merge of "Mao Zedong Thought" and "Denxiaoping theory" of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. This phenomenon was identified as "Crystallization of the practical experience and collective wisdom of the party and the people".

The expected outcome of these identified historic events definitely affect every Chinese wherever he or she lives. What is important to the others who are not Chinese is that this phenomenon has extensively influenced the present and the future of the countries that are close to and friendly with the Peoples of Republic of China-Sri Lanka comes under this category and hence we gladly join hands with the Chinese peoples to celebrate this event.
