Two outstation clubs in Sara Trophy final
Two outstation Clubs namely Kurunegala YCC and Galle CC have
qualified to play in the P. Sara Tournament final to be played at the
newly constructed Surrey Village Cricket ground in Maggona from June 24
to 26.
Kurunegala YCC with its rich heritage in cricket has been competing
in SLC conducted tournaments for over three decades. This outstation
Club has produced many national players in the likes of Ranjith
Madurasinghe, Eric Upashantha, Lanka de Silva, Rangana Herath and
Jeevantha Kulathunga.
For Kurunegala YCC Lanka de Silva, Udesh Perera, Charith Tissera and
Indika Dharmawardena have excelled with the bat, whilst Narada Ratnayake
Damith Gunathilake and Ajith Ekanaiyake are amongst the leading wicket
takers in the Tournament.
Cricket at Galle CC, dates back to the colonial days, and way back to
1876.They made their presence in the SLC conducted tournament in 1973,
when the Club emerged Champions in the division III tournament.
Galle CC has been very consistent since then and has qualified to
compete in many finals at domestic tournaments, including the under 23
finals in 1994 and 1999.
Jayananda Warnaweera, Lasith Malinga, Upul Chandana and JC Gamage are
all products of Galle CC who have represented Sri Lanka.
Rodney Pradeep, Asela Wewelwala, Amila Ratnayake, Premlal Buddika and
Romesh Rangana have had an excellent record with the bat this season for
Galle CC, whilst Sameera Perera, Hirantha Weerasinghe and Mohamed Abdeen
have been the main strike bowlers.
