Don Bosco make it to the final
The second semi final of the Holcim FA Cup played in Matara attracted
thousands of soccer fans which was a keenly contested battle between Don
Bosco Sports Club, Negombo and Nandimithra Sports Club (Civil Security
Force) saw the Negombo team make their way to the final with a 3-2 win
in a tie breaker system.
Don Bosco started off well attacking manner that made some dents in
the defense line of the Civil Force but could not take the advantage to
net in goalsl. The Civil Force goal keeper Viraj Upeka was outstanding
between the posts and saved attack that were posed to him. This
performances saw the the teams return to the (pavilion for lemons with a
blank score sheet.
The second half saw Civil Security Force team change from their
defensive style and shifted to attacking system which resulted in
changed the complexion of game. They succeeded in forging ahead twice
but the Don Bosco custodian Chintaka Sanjeewa brilliantly saved those
attacks.
Though both team penetrated each others defense lines on many
occasions none could find the right target to go for the much needed
lead and full time whistle was blown by the referee Dilan Perera with
scoreless draw. Referee had no other option other than to introduce the
tie breaker system.
At the end of 5 kicks both teams were on level terms 2-2, in the
decisive kick Don Bosco scored to break the deadlock and made it 3 - 2
which sealed victory and paved the way for the final. |
