IGP retires from Police service

The country’s 32nd Inspector General of Police Dr Mahinda Balasuriya
retired from the police service after serving the department for the
last 33 years, at a special ceremony at Police Headquarters yesterday
afternoon.
The outgoing IGP earlier met Senior DIGs, DIGs, Senior SPs and other
officers at the Police Headquarters. He thanked all senior and junior
officers for their support during his tenure.
IGP Balasuriya also paid tribute to President Mahinda Rajapaksa and
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa for their assistance given to him.
Dr Balasuriya said for the last 33 years, he had served the
motherland in many areas in different capacities, acquiring a wealth of
experience as a human being.
He also thanked journalists and the public who helped him.
When he assumed duties as the new IGP, Balasuriya said that his theme
was a ‘People-friendly, professional and prestigious Police Service.’ |
