Two water supply schemes inaugurated in Talawa:

'Safe drinking water to end kidney diseases'

"Priority has been given to the supply of drinking water to the people in the North Central Province to stop the spread of kidney diseases. In Talawa Divisional Secretariat division alone, 23 rural water supply schemes have been commissioned at a cost of Rs 2500 million," said North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake.

He said so following the inauguration of Endagala and Galmaduwa rural water supply schemes in Talawa built at a cost of Rs 30 million.

"In certain areas of the province, kidney diseases are spreading fast.

"Contaminated water is one of the major causes for this," the minister added. About 900 families would benefit under these projects. Talawa PS Chairman Upali Gunawardane also spoke.
