'Masses don't demand a constitutional revision'

"Only a few of the non governmental organization representatives are demanding for the revision of the constitution whereas the masses need the development of the country," said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

He was addressing the inauguration of the construction work on the Janasevana Viru Upahara housing village at Thambalagamuwa Jayapura in Trincomalee recently.

He recalled the dedication of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the combined Forces and Police to ensure a free country by eradicating terrorism. He added that the Janasevana project aims to provide people with what they lost due to terrorism.

The minister pointed out that now is not the time to be obsessed with articles of the constitution but to be committed in taking the country towards development. About 30 houses are being built in the Thambalagamuwa divisional secretariat division under the Jana Sevana Viru Upahara housing village project. Families who do not own houses were presented with 15 perches of land. The cost of the entire project is Rs nine million. Minister Weerawansa has instructed officials to complete this project within six months.
