Supiri Pasalas will help country's forward march - Education Minister

"The programme of 1,000 Supiri Pasalas will help country's development effort by producing intellectuals, said Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

He was speaking at a ceremony at Rajasinghe Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Panvila. The school was elevated to the status of Supiri Pasala, one of the 1,000 Supiri Pasalas established in the country.

He said that the "Supiri Pasalas" will be provided facilities on par with other leading schools.

He said universities and higher education institutes would not be to encourage students to paste posters, engage in demonstrations and processions, but to impart and inculcate leadership qualities.

An IT lab comprising 50 computers, a language library with all facilities for the improvement of English, mathematical and science laboratory with modern equipment and sports facilities were also provided for the school.

Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake also addressed the meeting.
