To enhance younger generations capabilities:

Pakistan ensures continuous support to Sri Lanka

Pakistan High Commissioner Seema Ilahi Baloch assured the Pakistan government's continuous support to Sri Lanka in enhancing the younger generation's nation building capacities with better educational opportunities.

She was speaking at the Jinnah Educational Scholarship Awards ceremony held at Ananda College auditorium yesterday. The Pakistan Government through its High Commission awarded Rs 2.56 million worth scholarships to 107 selected OL and AL students under this scholarship programme.

The High Commissioner said that over 800 students have benefited from this scheme since 2005. During the past six years, over Rs 20 million worth scholarships have been awarded. Each student would receive a stipend of Rs 24,000 as assistance for one year. She also observed that every year, the Pakistan Government offers fully funded scholarships in Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy and Dentistry to Sri Lankan students to pursue higher professional education in Pakistan. Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem admired the gesture of friendship extended to Sri Lanka by the Pakistan Government. Education Ministry Secretary H R Gunasekera also spoke.
