Twenty six deported Lankans arrive

Twenty six Sri Lankans deported from Britain yesterday arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport on a special flight with a security contingent of 30 British officials.

According to Immigration and Emigration authorities at the Airport, the deportees include 15 Tamil, four Sinhalese and seven Muslim persons.

The British authorities have decided to deport them after these persons were found to have overstayed their visas. Several persons whose request for asylum status was refused by the British authorities were among the deportees, the authorities said.

According to Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody, a team from Criminal Investigation Department and the National Intelligence Bureau has recorded a lengthy statements from the returnees.
