Twenty six deported Lankans arrive

Twenty six Sri Lankans deported from Britain yesterday arrived at the
Bandaranaike International Airport on a special flight with a security
contingent of 30 British officials.
According to Immigration and Emigration authorities at the Airport,
the deportees include 15 Tamil, four Sinhalese and seven Muslim persons.
The British authorities have decided to deport them after these
persons were found to have overstayed their visas. Several persons whose
request for asylum status was refused by the British authorities were
among the deportees, the authorities said.
According to Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody, a team from
Criminal Investigation Department and the National Intelligence Bureau
has recorded a lengthy statements from the returnees. |
