RONA lights Colombo streets

RONA Electrical in collaboration with Carbon Futures is in discussion
with the government to install 14,000 intelligent LED street lights in
Colombo.

RONA Electrical Chairman and CEO Ravi Randeniya said the project will
be fully funded by the Carbon Futures as they introduce the technology
and the investment. This project is a zero cost to the government, as
the company will be paying the bills.
The total investment of the 14,000 intelligent LED street light
installment is US$ 14 million. The investment group includes the World
Bank too.
He said this technology helps to reduce the cost of the Ceylon
Electricity Board (CEB) by 60 percent per lamp. The durability of this
light is 10 years.
He was speaking at the ENERGie3 Conference jointly hosted by RONA
Electrical and WIDAC Interiors yesterday.
The company is expecting to illuminate the entire road network
covering all parts of the island with intelligent LED lamps.
RONA Electrical will manufacture the LED lamps and the global
supplier to their global projects.
Randeniya said their aim is to save the energy cost of clients, while
assisting the country's economy to provide a boost with efficient energy
technologies. The company intends to be a centre for LED luminate
neutral to serve major markets in the global arena.
Sri Lanka imports 25 million units of fluorescent and CFL lights per
month. These technologies are not environmental, health or efficient
friendly compared to LED technology.
Hence, the utilization of LED saves minimum of 50 percent of lighting
and energy.
