A women's social services organization in the Ampara district was
commended by the World Food Programme for their social work and had
pledged support for their programme on 'Food for Work', sponsored by the
World Food Programme.
The World Food Programme Head of the Sub-Office in Ampara Zeneb Habte
was in Akkaraipattu first division co-operative branch recently to
distribute dry rations to the volunteers of Al-Ameera Women's
Development Organization headed by Hareetha Hanoon.
This was for their contribution in cleaning the Al-Fathimiya
Vidyalaya, Sir Razeek Fareed Vidyalaya and Samsul-Uloom Vidyalaya.
Habte highly praised their participation in the clearance work of the
schools and eradication of dengue breading places in the vicinity.
Habte said Muslim women who had hitherto been confined to their
houses have come out to engage themselves in the social development work
without going against their Islamic obligations.
This should set an example to other women in this area, she said.
Habte talked to the women who gathered to collect their dry ration
packages and advised them to continue social work, so that she could
continue this programme.
The women who were encouraged by her thanked the WFP for their
assistance to them who were affected by the tsunami, floods and
terrorism during the past. They assured her that they would continue
this programme without any hindrance. |
