Beruwala fisheries harbour to be developed

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Ministry will develop the Beruwala Fisheries harbour, said Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne.

"It has been planned to establish museums,ornamental fish stalls,fish farms, fish plants and exhibition centres at the Beruwala fisheries harbour.

"The Norwegian government will provide financial assistance for development activities," the minister said.

The ministry will also popularize the breeding of ornamental fish, set up factories for fish processing and canning in North, East and South, provide 500 multi-day fishing vessels at concessionary prices for coastal fishermen and develop fresh water fishing in new rehabilitated tanks, reservoirs and ponds, Dr Senaratne said.
