MC staff stage protest

The staff of the Anuradhapura Municipal Council yesterday launched a protest against analleged assault on the Municipal Council officials by certain individuals who had demanded the provision of temporary shops during Poson without auctioning.

Urban Commissioner Sampath Rohana said tenders had been called for the provision of 523 temporary trading stalls in the Anuradhapura sacred city during the Poson festival. He said certain individuals who opposed the procedure assaulted the officials with knives in their hands.

Five individuals were taken into custody by Police.
