Winners of the Young Lions Competition were announced by the
representative of Cannes Lions International Festival in Sri Lanka - The
Metal Factor, at the Green Chillies Fest held at the Taj Samudra in
Colombo.
From the nine teams that participated representing leading
advertising agencies of the country, the art-copy team from Triad won
the print category in the local leg of the competition which has enabled
the team to participate at the Cannes Advertising Festival 2011. This
year, the brief came from the Daily News, the only English government
owned newspaper in the country. The task set for the young creatives was
to convince the target audience that the newspaper is unbiased and
delivers real stories.
Triad's creative campaign was based on the idea that the Daily News
"tells it like it is" and gives the reader the Bare facts.
Commenting on their win, the ecstatic team from Triad said: "We are
so thrilled to have won locally so that we have an opportunity to really
fly the Sri Lanka flag at a global forum.
"Our credo 'Sri Lanka Can' will inspire us to give it our best shot,
when faced with tough competition from highly talented young creative
minds from around the world. We know a Sri Lankan team is yet to win
this prestigious competition at Cannes, the world's most prestigious
creative awards and that gives us courage to really strive for
excellence."
Triad, committed to be an inspiration to local agencies that are
committed to raise the bar of creative excellence in Sri Lanka sees this
achievement as a great opportunity to invite bright young minds to join
the industry.
It is only through the infusion of next generation leadership that
the Sri Lankan ad industry can move on to a global playing field. The
chance to compete at Cannes Young Lions is undoubtedly a step in the
right direction and a rewarding opportunity for the new generation of ad
professionals of this country.

sorting machine, with a capacity of 200MT per day. Expolanka Commodities
is currently the third largest importer of red lentils in the country.
Expolanka Commodities, Chief Operating Officer, Azmy Mohideen said,
"The demand, both locally and globally has been huge - which led us to
decide to upgrade the lentils splitting plant. The $ 1m expansion is
certainly a move in the right direction, giving us the opportunity to
cater to more local market needs as well as the same internationally."
Established in 2002, the Expolanka Commodities lentils splitting
plant started off small; at its very own premises in Wellampitiya, with
very basic splitting machinery - and now has a capacity of 200 MT per
day. The plant produces red split and whole processed lentils as well as
yellow lentils, both of high quality raw materials which, are imported
from Australia and Canada.
In the market, Expolanka Commodities markets the lentils from its
plant under a few brand names, including 'Expo Gold', 'Pure Earth',
'Classic' and 'Expo Yellow Lentils'.
Speaking further on the company's future moves, Mohideen said, "We
certainly have plans of adding more production lines at the lentils
splitting plant, but that's a plan we'll keep for phase two of the
expansion. Currently, we are focused on meeting the current demands, and
improving the quality of products we market. We will possibly also look
at marketing consumer packing as well." Expolanka Commodities was
established in 1980, importing and trading agricultural commodities such
as dates, onions, garlic, coriander, dried fish, canned fish and wheat
flour apart from lentils. The company is also one of the largest
importers of sugar into Sri Lanka. |
