Peterites should have it easy

St. Peter's College will take on archrivals S. Thomas' College, Mount
Lavinia in their Singer inter school Under 20 Division One League rugby
tournament match at Bambalapitiya today.
Defending champions St. Peter's College will start favourites to
clinch the Archibald Perera Trophy having already notched up six
victories out of seven outings so far in the tournament.
The Peterites are also in the running for the League championship
along with the table leaders Royal and Isipatana. In contrast S. Thomas'
College have recorded just a solitary win this season and are also
facing relegation into the Division Two.
However last year the Thomians put up a gallant performance to force
a creditable 31 all draw against St. Peter's College on their home
ground at Mount Lavinia.
St. Peter's College will be brimming with confidence following their
23-17 triumph last week against the traditional rivals St. Joseph's
College where they retained the Rev. Fr. Basil Wiratunga Shield for
another year.
Look to recover
However S. Thomas' College will be under tremendous pressure as they
look to recover and regroup after their huge 3-77 drubbing at the hands
of Isipatana College in their previous outing.
Joes look for third win
Meanwhile St. Joseph's College look set to register their third
victory this season when they take on Thurstan College in their Singer
inter school Division One League rugby tournament match at Longden Place
today.
The Josephians had a satisfactory outing last week where they went
down fighting 17-23 against their traditional rivals St. Peter's College
and are determined to get back into the winning ways.
Thurstan College also will be hoping to produce an improved
performance following last week's shock 10-13 defeat at the hands of
Dharmaraja College at the Sugathadasa Stadium. |
