CR in hard fought 14-8 win over CH
Chris DHAMBARAGE
Last year’s runners up CR and FC began their campaign with a hard
fought 14-8 victory over CH and FC in their Caltex inter club ‘A’
division league rugby tournament fixture worked off at Maitland Crescent
yesterday. CR and FC took some time before they settled to play to their
potential and turned the game in their favour while collecting their
points from two goals after having led 7-3 at the breather.
CR and FC of course failed to capitalize on their home advantage and
found stiff resistance from their opponents before they ended up by
scoring a solitary try and a penalty.
Airmen in exciting win
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club pulled off an exciting
18-12 victory over Sri Lanka Police Sports Club in their Caltex
inter-club ‘A’ division league rugby tournament match worked off at
Katunayake yesterday. The Airmen who finished fourth in last year’s
tournament put up another pleasing performance to collect their points
from three unconverted tries and one penalty after having led 8-5 at
half time. Fly half Chanaka Chandimal, Gayantha Iddamalgoda and Rajitha
Sansoni scored a try each for the winners with full back Radhika
Hettiarachchi putting over the penalty. Police SC responded with one
goal and one try with centre Chanaka Fonseka and winger Ranjith Kumara
scoring a try each and Priyantha Ekanayake converting one try. |
