Unbeaten Vidyartha meet Ananda in Colombo

Vidyartha College Kandy will take on their traditional rivals Ananda
College in their annual inter school Under 20 rugby encounter for the
William Gopallawa Shield at the CR and FC ground in Longden Place today.
Vidyartha College will start favorites to win the match having
maintained an unbeaten record in the Singer Division Two League
championship where they have notched up seven successive victories.
They are well set to clinch the league title having defeated D. S.
Senanayake (43–7), Zahira (51- 0), Mahanama (37- 36), C. W. W.
Kannangara MV (65-0), St. Sylvester’s (64-11), St. Anne’s (136-0) and
Panadura Royal (65-17).
In contrast Ananda College have experienced mixed fortunes where they
have won three and lost three so far in the tournament. They had the
better of Prince of Wales, Lumbini and St. John’s respectively.
This year Ananda College will be captained by Woshan Randima and
Vidyartha College will be led by Ayesh Galewela. In the overall series
both teams have won the shield on 20 occasions each.
The chief guest for this encounter will be old Anandian Eraj
Gunaratne, Deputy Chairman of Metropolitan Group of Companies
Wesley-Kingswood postponed
Meanwhile the annual inter school rugby encounter between traditional
rivals Wesley College and Kingswood College Kandy which was scheduled
for today has been postponed to Sunday at Havelock Park. |
