World No-Tobacco Day
The government’s programme to discourage the use of tobacco
and alcohol has received the blessings of the Maha Sangha.
The members of the Buddhist clergy have commended the
implementation of the Anti-Tobacco and Alcohol Act
introduced by the government. World No-Tobacco Day
commemoration was held on May 31 at Hotel Colombo Hilton.
Here Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, in conversation
with Ven Maduluwawe Sobhitha and Ven. Harispattuwe
Ariyawansalankara Theras. Professor Carlo Fonseka and
Additional Secretary Health Ministry Dr. Palitha Mahipala

ITN religious ceremony
The Independent Television Network (ITN) will organize a special
Islamic religious ceremony to mark its 32nd anniversary today at the
Maradana Jumma Mosque at 4.00 pm. ITN Chairman Rosmand Senaratne,
Director Hashim Omar and other officials will participate.
Fund- raiser
The Young Muslim Women's League (YMWL) will have its annual
fund-raising event on June 11 at the Marine Grand Banquet Hall, Colombo
from 10 am onwards. There will be trade stalls, a fashion show, games

The annual general meeting of the Old Peterites Group of Pre-1970
will be held on June 10, 2011 on the ground floor of the OBU Secretariat
at the college, from 6.30 pm onwards, followed by fellowship and dinner.

Public symposium
Red Lotus Organisation will hold a Public Symposium on 'Challenges
Facing Disaster Management' at 380/7, Sarana Road, Wijerama Mawatha,
Colombo on June 7 from 2 to 5 pm. Prof Samantha Hettiarachchi will speak
on 'Tsunami and Coastal Hazards' and Prof Kapila Dahanayake on
'Prevention and Control of Landslides'.Disaster Management Minister
Mahinda Amaraweera will be the chief guest while Social Services
Minister Felix Perera will be the guest of honour.

The annual general meeting of the Old Peterite's Group of 93 and 94
will be held today at 6.30 pm at the Rev Sister Flora Memorial Hall, St
