The first Thailand Buddhist Vihara in Sri Lanka will be inaugurated
by Prime Minister D M Jayaratna at Mabima, Heiyantuduwa on June 04.
Several parliamentarians and a Thai delegation are expected to
participate in the opening ceremony. The vihara is constructed according
to Thai architecture with aid from Thailand.
This vihara is an outcome of the dedication of Ven Rassagala Seevali
Thera, who has had enabled Sri Lanka to receive aid from Thailand during
a period of over twenty years. This special vihara has been built within
32 months.
An open Dharmasala with a capacity of one thousand devotees is built
at the vihara which is located in about 6 and a half acres of land. Ven
Rassagala Thera has created this vihara as a centre of Thai-Sri Lanka
friendship.The Ven Thera who had worked towards establishing relations
with Thailand had provided aid to this vihara under Thailand's aid
programmes. |
